CHARITY:
Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago (RHAMC) has been a leading lung health advocate since 1906. From our early crusade against tuberculosis, to today’s groundbreaking programs in lung cancer, asthma, COPD (chronic bronchitis and emphysema), and women’s lung health, we have been at the forefront of Chicago’s fight against lung disease.
RESEARCH:
A Fundamental Part of our Mission We support basic, clinical, and behavioral research to find cures and improve treatment options for lung cancer, asthma, and other chronic respiratory diseases. This year we will fund research awards at leading medical institutions including University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Northwestern University.

EDUCATION:
Providing Resources to Patients, Families, and CaregiversWe are fighting Chicago's asthma epidemic in neighborhoods such as Englewood, Pilsen, and Greater Grand Crossing, where asthma rates are substantially higher than average. Our annual Respiratory Rally provides resources to patients living with COPD. And our Catch Your Breath ® initiative supports research and education about the disproportionate effects of lung disease among women.

ADVOCACY:
Promoting Policies for Clean Air Our environmental and public health advocates have won victories on both city and state policies. Our efforts led to limitations on diesel engine idling by trucks and school buses, increased tobacco taxes (which help reduce youth smoking rates), regulations to clean-up Chicago's coal-fired power plants, and legislation to promote smoke-free workplaces.
